Charlie Hunter Trio
Call for show time
Apr 24, 2010
“Charlie has a knack for always taking his music and becoming the front and center and everything in between. On Baboon Strength, Charlie takes a step back and allows his collaborators, Tony Mason (drums) and Erik Deutsch (organ), into the spotlight with him. From the first notes of the opening track you know that this is going to be a party album. Initially sounding like another Garage-A-Trois album, the music settles in as swirling and other worldly sounds dance out of the speakers, leaving you in a groovin’ daze.” – Musical Stew Daily<br />

Paul Asbell
8:00 PM
Mar 13, 2010
Glades Guitars is very excited to have Paul here for a workshop and a show Here's a little bit about him from his website www.paulasbell.com Paul began playing at age 12, on an acoustic guitar that his<br />
dad had “broken in” singing pro-labor and “peoples’ songs”
while performing at union rallies and concerts in the late
‘40’s. An entirely self-taught player, Paul used as his early models the music in his dad’s 78 and LP collection- records
by Lightnin’ Hopkins, John Lee Hooker, Blind Willie
Johnson, Leadbelly, Uncle Dave Macon, Woody Guthrie,Jimmy Driftwood, and Flatt and Scruggs, as well as jazz
and gospel discs by Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan, The Staple Singers, and Mahalia Jackson. Soon after hearing the
music coming out of bars on Chicago’s South Side, however, electric guitar, trying to evoke the sounds of Buddy Guy and Otis Rush. His career began at age 18 “in the trenches” of Pepper’s Lounge, the 1815 Club, Theresa’s, and other haunts, as a sideman to Otis Rush, Magic Sam, JuniorWells and other fixtures of the Chicago blues scene. Gigs, tours and recordings followed, with legends like John Lee Hooker, Earl Hooker Lightnin’ Hopkins, Sam Lay, Pops Staples, Donny Hathaway and Lightnin’ Slim. During this time he appeared on the milestone recording “Fathers and Sons” featuring Muddy Waters, Paul Butterfield and Mike Bloomfield and also played on “The London Howlin’Wolf Sessions” LP, featuring Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood and members of the Rolling Stones. In 1971, needing a “spiritual battery recharge” he made the move to rural Vermont. The idea was to go as far from his “urban music roots” as possible- he bought a tiny piece of land in the shadow of breathtaking Camel’s Hump Mountain, built a geodesic dome, and attempted to live “like normal folks who didn’t live the music life 24 hours a day”. This lasted a couple of years, until he began discovering other musicians who had moved to the area with similar stories. Before long, he was playing
4 nights/week with local R&B and jazz-based groups, doing session work for locally based but nationally known Philo Records, and performing regionally with Mary McCaslin, Jim Ringer, Paul Siebel, and other singer-songwriters. The desire to play challenging original music led him to assemble a quartet of like-minded, worldclass players. Originally named “The Paul Asbell Quartet”, the group soon changed its name to “Kilimanjaro” and recorded two albums of Paul’s compositions for Philo, which won “Indie” awards from NAIRD for “Most Innovative Album” of 1981 and “Best Jazz Album” for 1983. Numerous festival dates, tours, and performances followed, including performances at several Kool Jazz Festivals in Saratoga, NY, Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, and festivals and theatre
dates in Atlanta, San Antonio, San Francisco, Denver, etc. In 1984, Kilimanjaro joined forces harmonica legend Paul Butterfield, and toured for several years as a double-bill, opening the show with their original music and then “morphing’ into a Chicago-style blues band as Butterfield hit the stage.
Appearances included the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Roskilde Festival in Copenhagen, and numerous theater venues in the US. While at home, the 4 members of Kilimanjaro joined w/ blues-jazz legend “Big Joe” Burrell to form the Unknown Blues Band, performing and touring in New England and Northeast. Several albums were recorded, including “Blue Bottom” on Alcazar w/ George Gritzbach. Performances include the
St. Denis Theatre in Montreal, Kool Jazz Festival at SPAC, Sugarbush Folk Festival, Ben &
Jerry’s One World Festival, the Utrecht Blues Estafette in Holland, etc. This unit, essentially unchanged in personnel since its inception in 1981, continues to perform, and is a regional favorite. Since the early ‘80’s, Paul has performed regionally with numerous legends of jazz and blues, including
Sonny Stitt, Jon Hendricks and family, Bobby McFerrin, David Bromberg, Big Mama
Thornton, Betty Carter, James Carter, Kermit Ruffins, Michael Ray, the Sun Ra Arkestra, The Wild Magnolias, Joshua Redman, John Stowell, and countless others. Since 1994, Paul has been reconnecting with his original folk-based roots in enthusiastically received festival shows and solo concerts. Recent appearances include Healdsburg and Newport Guitar
Festivals, MerleFest, and numerous acoustic venues across the country. His 2 solo acoustic CD's, “Steel-String Americana” and “Roots and Branches”, received numerous rave reviews for its highly individualized twists on blues and jazz standards, old-timey country-based themes and original
pieces from the “american roots” tradition. The Flynn Theatre called them “A genre-blurring, virtuosic
waltz through the deep heritage of American folklore, where styles of Robert Johnson, Doc Watson and Dr. John rub elbows with those of Joe Pass and Bill Frisell.” Others have said “It is quite the best CD of acoustic guitar that I have heard in years!”
When not touring, Asbell has composed, performed and recorded over 60 soundtracks for film and video productions, including features for RKO, Columbia Films and Disney Productions, Vermont Public TV, Vermont Public Radio, projects for Benetton, Nordica, Elan, and many others. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting Gold Award was given in ‘93 to “Never Done”, for which he
played and arranged music.
Throughout his career, he has found time to maintain a professional teaching schedule. Paul has taught for many years on a university level, including positions at Dartmouth College, Skidmore College, St. Michaels College, Johnson State College, and presently at Middlebury College and the University of Vermont. In addition, he presently sees between 10-25 private students/ week, covering every conceivable age group, stylistic orientation, and playing level. Past students have included recognized professionals in jazz, rock, folk, etc, including Phish songwriter/guitarist/icon Trey Anastasio.

Jan 16, 2010
John Stowell began his successful career in the early 1970’s with private study with guitarist Linc Chamberland and pianist John Mehegan. Several years later he met bassist David Friesen in New York City, and they formed a duo that recorded and toured prolifically for seven years, with performances in the United States,Canada, Europe and Australia. The duo continues to perform thirty years after their first meeting.<br /><br />

BOUMEL HOUSE CONCERTS (Coral Springs, FL)
PRESENTS
MICHAEL CHAPDELAINE
Acoustic Guitar Virtuoso

Saturday, January 17, 2009
Pot luck @ 7:00 PM, concert begins at 8:00 PM
Artist Donation: $15 ***** Reservations Required
RSVP to 954-341-0086 or email: aboumel@bellsouth.net

MICHAEL CHAPDELAINE (www.michaelchapdelaine.com) is the only guitarist ever to win First Prize in the world's top competitions in both the Classical and Fingerstyle genres: the Guitar Foundation of America International Classical Guitar Competition and the National Fingerstyle Championships at the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival in Winfield, Kansas. From New York's Lincoln Center to the Cactus Cafe in Austin, from Milano to Bangkok, Chapdelaine continues to enchant, dazzle and surprise audiences and critics alike as he redefines the modern acoustic guitar with his amazing technique, "soulful" expressiveness, and versatility as a performer, singer-songwriter, composer and arranger/producer.

Michael’s teachers included the great Spanish maestro Andres Segovia. His performances, played on both steel string and classical guitars, include musical styles ranging from blues to Bach to country to rhythm n' blues as he wins his audiences hearts with breath taking technique and the poetic magic of his original musical portraits and landscapes. In 1994 Michael turned his attention to pop music, in arranging, producing and recording Time-Life Music's beautiful Guitar by Moonlight collection, which sold 250,000 copies in its first two years in the stores. In 1998, he once again, expanded his musical range and gained instant notoriety and credibility in the "acoustic music" world as a "fingerstyle" guitarist and composer, by winning the National Fingerpicking Championships at Winfield. Michael is Professor of Music and head of guitar studies at the University of New Mexico, and has previously been on the faculties of the University of Colorado at Denver and Metropolitan State University. He has given master classes throughout the world.

“… if I were marooned on a desert island with a limited selection of recordings, this one would be among my choices...I have seldom heard a more beautiful album. Other young guitarists have excellent technique, but few have such style and musicality, and Chapdelaine's beautiful tone is the nearest to Segovia's that I can recall." - Acoustic Guitar Magazine

Jack Lawrence
8:00 PM
Oct 03, 2008
Another incredible Friday night concert night coming your way. A return performance by Jack Lawrence who has been called a "flatpicking powerhouse." His recordings and performances combine exciting, high spirited and innovative guitar solos with tasteful phrasing in his own inventive style. Well known as Doc Watson's partner since the early 1980's, Jack's inspired playing and smooth vocals provide listeners with performances that span musical traditions. Jack grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina and his musical odyssey began at age ten when his father took a job as sound engineer for a local music hall. Backstage at the Lake Norman Music Hall, Jack had access to many of the top acts in the Country, Bluegrass and Gospel fields as well as the local R'n'B bands. As a youngster, Jack took this opportunity to meet and learn from some of the finest players in the business. Performers of the day such as Buck Owens, Don Rich, Bill Monroe, Leon Rhodes, George Shuffler, and Flatt and Scruggs exposed Jack to a variety of styles emerging in the 1950's and 60's. From these early experiences, Jack developed his own talents and found his major influences to be Doc Watson, Clarence White and Django Reinhardt. By the late 1960's, Lawrence was playing in local Folk and Bluegrass groups and soaking up as much music on the professional level as possible. An after school job with luthier C.E. Ward in Charlotte proved a tremendous learning ground for the sixteen-year-old. Through Ward's association with Bluegrass Gospel legend Carl Story, Jack started doing guest spots on Carl's TV show and making other public appearances. In 1971, three days after his high school graduation, Lawrence set out on his professional career. <br />

I can't wait!!!<br />

Steve Greenberg
8:00 PM
Mar 15, 2008
Steve Greenberg was born on 8/4/43 in Cleveland, Ohio. He left
Cleveland as soon as he was able to walk and to comprehend the
disadvantages of growing up in Cleveland, and moved to Miami,
Florida.
Steve attended the Cleveland Institute of music, studying music
theory. After moving to Florida, he began performing in his junior
high school choir and sang in choirs throughout high school. He was
subsequently featured in the University of Florida Men's Glee Club,
the Ohio State Symphonic Choir, and sang with the University of
Miami Chamber Singers. Steve is known as a lyric vocalist with a
powerful and versatile baritone voice.
Steve graduated twice from Ohio State University and practices
law in Pembroke Pines, Florida. In college he sang professionally in a
folk music trio with his brother and sister-in-law as a deleterious offshoot
of the folk scare of the 1960's. Now, he lives with his wife and
true love, Robby and their two dogs. He has appeared in South
Florida as a solo act, and with his Folk Trio, The New Last Rights
(formerly, “Last Rights”).
He has produced four CD’s, two with his group, and two solo.
He has performed throughout Florida, in Virginia and Maryland. His
rich interpretations of folk songs and ballads and his off-beat sense of
humor have gained him popularity wherever he has appeared.

Feb 16, 2008

Here's a little blurb about him...Robert Bowlin started at age 1 and a half playing the ukulele, graduated to his dad's guitar at age 5, and has been creating unique and beautiful guitar music ever since. He won the National Finger picking Guitar Championship in Winfield, KS in 1979 and got 2nd in the Flatpicking Guitar Contest in 1978. His professional career has included stints with artists such as Maura O' Connell, Kathy Mattea, Tom T. Hall, the Osborne Brothers, Bill Monroe, Ray Price, Bobby Bare, Faron Young, Ricky Van Shelton. He was a session guitarist and fiddler in Nashville for countless recordings. He has played on stage with artists such as BB King and Ricky Scaggs, Tony Rice, Peter Rowan, and Vassar Clements. 8:00 PM
Jan 26, 2008
Our very own Steve Wildey will be performing a variety of his songs as well as songs by other people. Steve's concerts are always a blast as he weaves his wit and humor into some interesting stories. We never know quite what to expect that is except for his playing...there's a reason why he was the 2005 finger style champ...more then that are his melodies which are strong and beautiful if you haven't heard. When he gets into his looper things can get very interesting for sure as he displays a wonderful sense of timing and syncopation. Steve has been working on some new material as of late but I am sure he will incorporate some of his favorites from both CD's as well. Please make your reservation early as his shows fill up quickly. 954-983-2510 The fun begins at 8:00 PM and admission is still only 15 bucks.
